The 2D Marine Division Insignia: Was designed and approved in late
1943, the insignia is in the official Marine Corps colors of scarlets and gold.
The insignia displays a spearhead-shaped scarlet background with a hand
holding aloft a lighted gold torch. The number “2” is superimposed upon the
torch, and the torch and hand is encircled by five white stars in the
arrangement of the Southern Cross constellation, under which the
division’s first WWII combat took place at Guadalcanal.

- The Coordinates: Julian C. Smith Hall home of II MEF and 2D Marine
Division HQ 34.6757N, 77.3721W. Originally activated 01Feb1941 at Camp
Elliot CA.

to complete any mission assigned to Division
- Flowering Dog Wood: North Carolina’s state flower, Honestly just needed
to fill the corners.
- Red Headed Wood Pecker: Has the magical power to halt any training at
Camp Lejeune.
The cotton mouth snake located in the right lower hand corner is the
deadliest snake that you can come across while enjoying the lovely
scenery around Camp Lejeune.
The 2D Marine Division Battle blaze: located in the lower left hand corner,
previously a battle blaze similar to the 1st Marine Division's insignia but
with the "2" in a form of a snake was worn by veterans of the Guadalcanal
campaign.
- The Montfort Point Memorial: Represents all African American Marines
that were trained at Camp Montfort Point during WWII. On April 19, 1974,
Montford Point Camp was renamed Camp Johnson, in honor of the late
Sergeant Major Gilbert H. "Hashmark" Johnson. The Camp remains the
only Marine Corps installation named in honor of an African American.
- The outdoor scenery: Camp Lejeune is covered with mainly Pine trees but
once you go deeper you’ll see the Red Maple tree, Saw Grass, the swamp
land with Driftwood floating around and from time to time you will see the
Gators floating around.
- The major battlefields that 2D Marine division took part in are carved into
the trees.
- The Battle Field Cross, referenced from the Battle Field Cross located at
2D Marine Division Command Deck, in remembrance of all fallen brothers
of OIF/OEF.
The Marines and Sailors walking in the woods from are in remembrance of
all Marines and Sailors of 2D Marine Division that have come before us and
did not come home.
- The Swamp Foxes blowing the western winds (Zephyr Zephyrus). The
western winds ( blowing eastward) represent the direction of 2 nd Marine
Division travels for deployments.
- Battle streamers on the Marine Corps Battle Colors- 2D Marine Division has
been highly decorated in every major conflict since WWII and have earned the
following Battle Streamers: Presidential Unit Citation Streamer - World War II,
Tarawa, China Service Streamer , American Defense Service Streamer with one
Bronze Star, European-Africa- Middle Eastern Campaign Streamer, Asiatic-Pacific
Campaign Streamer with one Silver Star and Two Bronze Stars, World War II
Victory Streamer, Navy Occupation Service Streamer with Asia and European
Clasps, National Defense Service Streamer with one Bronze Star, Marine Corps
